In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. On 12th March, TEDxJakarta held an event to further spread the ideas of TED's mission with its TED2011: The Rediscovery of Wonder program broadcasted to a packed auditorium at @america in Pacific Place. Hello! Magazine and Pacific Place held a Celebrity Masterchef Competition on Saturday 19 March at our All About Food pop-up kitchen on Ground Floor.

Aida Nurmala, Ben Kasyafani, Erwin Parengkuan, DJ Andezzz, Indy Barends, Mike Mohede and Moza Pramita were the contestants of the day with Ayu Dewi as the host.  The challenge: to cook the most delicious nasi goring, a simple enough task yet provides ample room to add twists to the taste.

Nasi goreng is one of Indonesian's favorite comfort food, and what better to reinvent than through a fun cook-off.

To start, the celeb-chefs had to dash to KemChicks to gather ingredients for their special nasi goreng menu.

Families and friends of the contestants were in attendance for a star-studded event. The fun cooking banter lightened the competitive mood, with kids and friends giving support and comedic moments throughout the dash to finish the perfect meal. Ingredients were chopped, meats were marinated, herbs and spices were garnished. Audience was spectating with amusement.

When the final minute is up, judges for the cook-off: Arimbi Nimpuno, Olivia Wongso, Zack Lee, Dwi Sutarjantono, Chef Sudaryanto and Ria Irawan, who observed carefully the preparation and presentation, had a taste of each of contestant's creation to determine the winner.

Whilst the judges tasted the final meal presentation, the celeb-chefs had a break to dig in to Haagen-Dazs delectable fondues.  Kids especially love those, with melted chocolate plastered all over their face.

Upon returning, the judges announced Erwin Parengkuan as the favorite winner of the night with his Nasi Goreng Udang and to Mike Mohede with his Nasi Goreng Jawa Istimewa as the overall winner! Mike then proceeded to celebrate his win by gracing us a song from his upcoming album release, a neat surprise to conclude the Celebrity Masterchef Competition!
